You need two very rare stones. A Keystone, [he says, putting a hand on his mega-anchor, tapping the gem laid into the hilt.] And the corresponding gem for the Pokémon. Sharpedo can only mega evolve with Sharpedonite, Camerupt with Cameruptite, you get the idea.

[he shakes his head.]

They're... very hard to come by. Especially outside of Kalos.

[blueser]

[Blue's expression sours, and so does the grass around them, paling to a yellow in a small radius around him when he hears that. (Seeing the grass react only makes his mood worse, for what it's worth.)]

Sounds needlessly complicated. [He grumbles, rolling his eyes and raking his fingers in the dried-up grass.] But if they're mostly in Kalos, how come you Hoenn losers have 'em?

[Kalos... Kalos........ Now why would it only be there? He tries to think about what he knows of the region.]

[archie just raises his eyebrows.]

I don't believe you think that for a moment. It's a battle technique, a complex and new one at that. I shan't be surprised if when you get to go home it'll be something you pick up yourself-- for Gyarados or Pidgeot.

[he shrugs.]

I didn't get them through stricly legal means. That said, they still exist in other regions and you can get 'em legitimately, it's just harder than it would be.

[blueser]

[Blue turns to roll his eyes at Archie, picking up a stray rock and skipping it towards the water.] Obviously. Doesn't mean that it doesn't sound like a pain in the Feebas... It's not the training part of it I'm concerned with. That, I have no doubts we'll figure out quick.

[Doesn't he? ...A bond with your Pokémon... He still doubted himself very much, when it came to that. He'd tried, he'd been trying so hard the last few years... But how would he know whether he'd actually accomplished anything in that?]

[He doesn't voice any of this of course, just staring out into the lake blankly, watching the Water-types.] ...Gyarados and Pidgeot can do it, huh. [His gaze slides from Gyarados to Pidgeot, soaring over the lake on the hunt for fish. Which of those two... Both had positives and negatives towards being able to achieve a so-called "perfect bond", he thought.]

he frowns.] Then... it's the bond?

[blueser]

[Archie only gets a cold, flat look turned his direction, and the wind that suddenly blows past with it is downright arctic.]

[And that's all he's going to say on the matter, apparently. He fall silent, brows knit into a pinch as he turns his attention back to the Pokémon in silence.]

[he won't press further-- that emotional effect says everything. he doesn't want to leave it all hanging at the same time, either!]

Hah...! Did you know there are some Alolan form Pokémon here? They have entirely different types!

Actually, I did know. [Blue straightens up, matter-of-factly.] My Uncle Samson is the leading researcher of Alolan formes of Kantonian Pokémon, you know. You don't gotta lecture me.

[Even if he was very surprised to actually meet one himself...]

[he doesn't mind the snootyness. he prefers it over how blue was before.]

[Blue purses his lips, like he's deciding how to lie to save face the right way, and then shrugs his shoulders.]

She looks strong. I wanted to battle her.... Too bad that trainer of hers is an annoying, good for nothing old fart.

[He glances to Archie.] Worse than you, even.

[broceanic]

[he barks a laugh at that.]

Aye, Nanu sure is somethin', ain't he? What'd he do, complain about kids today to ya?

[blueser]

[Sourly, Blue takes a moment to recall.]

Something like that.

[But his glance slides over to Archie, and he wonders if he should even broach the subject with a criminal.] ...Who was it that arrested you, when you got whupped? Stone? And the rest of your team?

[given that he knows nanu's own interpol past now, archie figures that's likely where this is going. he won't jump the sharpedo for once in his life, though.]

When May took out Kyogre, Steven Stone and Wallace were present, but May decided she wanted me to have another chance, and seeing as she was the one that saved everyone Steven went with what she decided.

[his expression darkens.]

Before you say it, I don't understand why the law wasn't fully involved either. I want to clean up my own mess, so I'm taking the chance I was given that I don't deserve.

[blueser]

[As Archie predicted, Blue baulks at this information, but... 'May'? He'd mentioned that name before.] What kinda authority did this May lady have to make that kinda decision, huh? ...I thought Interpol wasn't subject to any one League's rules...

[He puffs a little and looks away again.] Whatever, that's got nothin' to do with... So you're saying you never had dealings with 'em before? Is that right?

[broceanic]

She was the one that took out Kyogre and ceased its rampage. She went onto be Champion of the region.

[he shrugs.]

No, not yet. It's highly likely I will in the future. When I arrived here, the whole mess had only happened a week or so ago.

[blueser]

Oh. [Blue says with the kind of sullen tone that says 'of course'.]

[For a second after that, Blue just sort of half-nods... and then his head whips to look at Archie with confusion.]

A week ago!? I heard about it... it was right around the time I was heading for Pokémon League! What are you talking about?

[broceanic]

Time isnt... entirely linear when you take this weird place into account. I don't think about it that much.

[blueser]

This isn't... [Blue cringes, which might just be him trying not to think about it too hard as well, and failing. His mind goes to the legends of creation, the Lords of Space and Time, and the 3 guardians of emotion connected to them...... Emotions, huh.....]

...This isn't all the doing of the Original One, is it? These Arehtei... they're not created by Arceus, too?

[he shakes his head.]

No. I don't think so. I've been reading a lot and nothing familiar is mentioned in any texts.

[blueser]

Hmmoh. [Blue sinks into his huddle against his knees again, lips in a light frown.]

[He'd been doing plenty of reading too, but it was more directly about the fauna around here. While he was curious, researching the Arehtei and the myths surrounding them had been something he felt, for some reason, reluctant to touch.]

[Figures the guy who'd raised an ancient legendary before would be looking into it again, though. He doesn't say it.]

So what you're telling me is you... For you, it's still 3 years ago. [He gives Archie a sort of strange look, then away again.]

Well, I haven't heard of anything else dumb happening in Hoenn since then, if that makes you feel any better. [Sinnoh, Johto. But not Hoenn.]

[he frowns, glancing over at blue. that's... certainly not what he expected to hear. or for blue to... even tell him.

archie tries to hide his smile.] It does, a bit. Thanks. Guess future me doesn't have any more screw ups up his sleeve.

[he notes that, but doesn't find a problem with it. he's kind of tired of kids getting involved and needing to clean up the mess of adults.]

Ah, I'd be more worried about getting Anabel on my case than any o' the other trainers here. She's the one I can't stand disappointing. [he hums, looks over at blue.] Say, d'you know anythin' about Z-Moves?

[blueser]

Anabel, huh... Hmm, I think I met her. We talked about eggs. She's the chief, right?

--Z-what? [The ills of being pre-retcon.....]

Yeah. Purple hair?

[there's a pause then... he shakes his head.]

It's somethin' Nanu can do, apparently. Thought you might know about it on account of bein' an Oak. Maybe that kinda shit really is super secret...
