I've heard of them. [sharpedo spins in place, snuffling happily and grunting hellos to gyarados. it's been so long since he got to hang out with another water type!] Seems most of the elemental ones are the same. Kyogre was right at the bottom of a caven at the bottom of the ocean and I believe Groudon... was in a volcano? I couldn't say; I was hardly privvy to Magma's research. Even after we started working together to clean up my mess.
[he shrugs.]
It makes sense they're still like that, though. We humans must seem like stupid little babies to them... [ah. anyway.] No, this is a floating island. I'm gonna go exploring down below with some friends next month... the water here replenishes itself via magical water cores. I've seen one before, they're... quite somethin'.
[Gyarados watches Sharpedo spin and rumbles a friendly hello, examining the unfamiliar Hoennian Pokémon. A smaller fish boy... They're going to get along just fine.]
[Blue gives Archie a side-eye at the mention of Kyogre, Groudon and Team Magma. Humph. Blue didn't know many of the details about what had happened in Hoenn... But this guy didn't seem to be trying to hide it. He didn't know whether the openness was commendable or shameless. But when it comes to legendaries... Well, incidents like that had convinced Blue they weren't worth messing with.] They had said some stuff about the surface being dangerous. Did humans do that, too?
--Wait. The water here comes from magic? That sounds dumb. [Blue wrinkles his nose, leaning to peer into the lake's water.] How can a rock produce water...?
[He doesn't really mean for it to happen this way, but Archie receives the mental image of a scene Blue knows all too well- the red and gray ashes of Cinnabar's volcanic ruins set against the calm blue waves and sky. It had become his most ubiquitous getaway spot, these days.]
Why would I be scared...? Oh, forget it. They only counted the people and their Pokémon, anyway. Why's this old fart being so nosy...? Like he cares. Not to mention old man Blaine lost everything...
If you were affected by it, it does. Or am I just projecting that onto him...? He's so young and had to see such destruction, just like May.
[his own mental tangent causes a pang of pain that's felt over the connection.]
I'm not saying it to be sorry personally. Despite what you think of me after what I did - and I don't blame you for any of it, you're right - I still do actually care about other people going through something terrible like that. I'd feel the same for anyone from Kanto.
Just like Hoenn. I still owe so much to that region... I don't want to be here.
[straddling it, perhaps? archie can't tell himself, all he knows is there's no use hiding it with people from their world. he shakes his head.]
Don't know. Maybe. Could just be how it is down there. Inhospitable naturally, y'know? [he frowns.] Really? It's no different from a water type using surf and spittin' out the water itself.
[Blue shouts over the crystal as hard as he can, clenching in an attempt to force the stupid crystal to stop oversharing. He doesn't really mean it to Archie, but... well, he's collateral to the sentiment.]
I don't wanna talk about this crap! You don't even know anything about me, so don't apologize to me about something you feel bad about!
[The crystal's connection is suddenly severed with a harsh, forced sensation, as Blue finally manages to force it shut.]
[archie says a little impotently, looking down at the crystal in his hand. his nose wrinkles, annoyed at what he's just accidentally put blue through. he clenches his fist, then throws the amulet out his window.
Most Water-types can retain or produce additional water naturally, though... [Little mister know-it-all replies sourly, still skeptical of these lake-producing rocks.]
Even if it was natural... the surface down there, I mean, if it's that bad then why're you going down there? What's down there to bother looking at?
That's what I mean. It's like that, just... not a living being. I don't think.
[he shrugs.]
Just curious. There's definitely a settlement down there, so it can't be that bad, surely... you're a young trainer! Don't you have a sense of adventure?
[Blue turns to deliver Archie a withering look, then tilts his head in consideration.]
When I arrived here, everyone wasted their breath telling me how casual battling like we do back home was too reckless because there's no easy healing. [He begins, looking Archie up and down.] So why would I go down to a part of this place that's apparently so dangerous nothing can live in it, when there's no Pokémon to be found and I don't even know left from right yet around here?
If you wanna talk reckless, that's reckless. What if my Pokémon got hurt down there?

Anyway, the town evacuated ahead of time... If that's what you're worried about.
